Kanadische Anlage in 1:29

Vor fast einem Jahrzehnt konnte ich in British Columbia eine 1:29-Anlage fotografieren, die einen ganzen Keller ausfüllte. Sie zeichnete sich durch die Gestaltung der Details besonders aus.Die Fotos entstanden damals mit Hilfe von drei Lampen und einer 5-MP-Digitalkamera. Da es unmöglich war, die weit verzweigte Anlage der Winter Valley Regional Railroad mit ihren modulähnlich schmalen Trassen auszuleuchten, habe ich mich auf Szenen konzentriert, die mit dem harten Licht erfasst werden konnten.
Die – verglichen mit Spur-1-Gleisen – klobigen Profile von Aristo-Craft und LGB stören etwas den Eindruck, waren aber für die Gartenbahn-Spurkränze der 1:29-Modelle notwendig. Nur Fahrzeuge von Aristo-Craft waren im Einsatz. Im Bild sind eine vierachsige RS-3 in 1:29 und die frühere Delton-C-16 im Maßstab 1:24.
Da es damals kaum kanadische Gebäudemodelle gab, baute Dave Winter sie selbst. Darunter die typisch kanadischen verkleideten und beheizbaren Wassertürme. Leider habe ich davon keine Fotos mehr, weil ein Programmfehler von Aperture einen Teil der Fotos unrettbar ins digitale Nirvana befördert hat.
Mit viel Fantasie hat er kleine Szenen mit Figuren, Zäunen und Gerümpel aufgebaut. Die Mounties – ein Teil der kanadischen Polizei – sorgen hier für Recht und Ordnung und akzeptieren bei Mercedes-Fahrern keine Ausreden.
Bei der Landschaftsgestaltung wurde noch kein Hightech-Material eingesetzt, sondern Naturmaterialien von Sand bis zu getrockneten Zweigen. Teppichboden dient sogar als gemähtes Maisfeld. Das wirkt vor dem Kameraauge manchmal etwas grob, entfaltet aber aus 50 cm Entfernung seine Wirkung. Nicht jeder mag tausende Dollar für künstliche Vegetation ausgeben. Die zum vergrößerten Spur-1-Maßstab 1:29 passende Landschaftsgestaltung auf engstem Raum ist weitgehend stimmig und bietet viel zu entdecken.

What a great pleasure this is. A cool and dreary winters day in the Okanagan is suddenly much brighter.
I remember your visit well and I still show your story to my guests. The photography is what really lights up the room of course and based on the few photos attached here it still will. They also serve to highlight all that has gone on during those intervening years. Ten of them. My goodness!
Locomotives on the Winter Valley has been upgraded to meet the demand. New SD40-2s are now on the head-end and the fleet of GP9s have been reduced to assisted power. The old Canadian Pacific RS3 is working away in England somewhere and the steam engine that pulled the local tourist train is permanently on a siding - in my garage - waiting sale or a new gear train. A dedicated rebuilt road switcher works the Hudson Terminals.
All the telephone poles are strung with wires now which makes the whole thing look much better but that can cause finger problems for the unwary. The old machine shop across from the Winter Valley station has become an active bike shop and the focal point of the downtown area. A big new steel arch bridge based on the Cisco Bridge in the Fraser Canyon is on it's way from Phoenix where is was built by http://www.mainlinebridges.com. Expensive but worth it because it will fill a scenery gap that has been an issue here for 13 years.
I also broke the bank and invested in the CVP/Airwire Drop-in radio control system. A huge undertaking, ten engines, but well worth the effort. As I only run USA Trains products it was a natural fit. DCC with half the DCC problems. I wait now on receiver-decoders for the NW2s and then I'm done. I highly recommend the system but of course it's not for everyone.
